The brushless motors also have both merits and demerits. These motors are easy to install and can directly be fixed on the hub of the wheels. The power transmission is smooth and minimal, or no power reduction takes place. No differential is required when using these motors. It helps in reducing the number of components in the EV, and hence result in reducing its weight. Since these motors comprise of electrical technology and no mechanical, therefore less maintenance is required.

 Although this hub set up is gaining popularity, it still has some demerits. The hub motors are bigger, which increases the unsprung mass. Also, these motors generate high torque. Hence the speed is low as compared to other DC motors. The motors comprise electrical connections rather than mechanical, hence the complexity of the connections increases. The BLDC motors are placed in between the wheels and chassis, which can cause fire hazards due to rubbing and scratching.
